1️⃣ Stopping in Amazement and Reverence

Ibn Al-Qayyim teaches us how to ponder and reflect, saying:
"Put yourself in the position of the one being addressed."

You must apply the Quran’s verses to your own life and reality. You may even find that certain verses describe traits within you. And if you deceive yourself, the Quran will expose you:
“Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is deceiving them…” [An-Nisa: 142]

2️⃣ Shedding Tears

Allah Almighty says:
“And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they recognize of the truth. They say, ‘Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses.’” [Al-Ma'idah: 83]

3️⃣ Increasing in Humility

Ibrahim At-Taymi said:
"If a person has knowledge but it does not make them weep, then it is likely that they have not been given true knowledge. Let go of it, for Allah describes the scholars by saying:

“Say, ‘Believe in it or do not believe. Indeed, those who were given knowledge before it—when it is recited to them—they fall upon their faces in prostration. (107) And they say, ‘Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, the promise of our Lord has been fulfilled.’ (108) And they fall upon their faces weeping, and it increases them in humility.” (109) [Al-Isra]

4️⃣ Shivering in Fear of Allah

Asma’ bint Abi Bakr رضي الله عنها said:
"The companions of the Prophet ﷺ, when the Quran was recited to them, as Allah described, their eyes would weep, and their skins would tremble."

Allah says:
“Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins of those who fear their Lord shiver from it; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills. And one whom Allah leaves astray—for him there is no guide.” [Az-Zumar: 23]

5️⃣ Strengthening of Faith

Allah says:
“The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith, and upon their Lord they rely.” [Al-Anfal: 2]

This feeling of fear is different from the skin’s shivering. It is as if your heart itself is trembling from within.

6️⃣ Feeling Joy and Reassurance

Allah says:
“And whenever a surah is revealed, some of them say, ‘Which of you has this increased in faith?’ As for those who believed, it has increased them in faith, and they rejoice.” [At-Tawbah: 124]

A true believer always feels a sense of elation and joy when interacting with the Quran.

7️⃣ Prostrating in Awe of Allah

As Allah says:
“And they fall upon their faces weeping, and it increases them in humility.” (109) [Al-Isra]

May Allah grant us hearts that are moved by His words and souls that submit in reverence to His guidance.
